The Global Education Coalition hosted its February meeting at the United Nations Foundation (UNA-USA). The meeting opened with special presentations by three guests – each with unique content relevant to global education. Adam Wolfson, co-founder of Warnable, presented an innovative platform that is being used by many schools and districts in response to the recent attacks and gun violence within American schools. The Warnable App provides timely content to school leadership in the event of an emergency. Alex Roosenburg, Founder and Director of Capitol Learning Academy, a private school rooted in experiential and self-organized learning, shared with GEC her journey in school start-up. We ended the presentation with Tehreem Asghar , who unpacked the Peak-A-Box, play-based, curriculum designed to bring meaning play, through skills development, for refugee children.
Troy Wolfe, Senior Director UNA Education Programs & Learning at the UN Foundation, introduced the Speaking Truth on Poverty Initiative S.T.O.P and engaged members in a conversation about the collaborative opportunity. Below is a blurb describing this project:
The United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) proposes a partnership project with UNDP and the Global Education Coalition to engage youth in an awareness campaign and competition on The Eradication of Extreme Poverty. This multi-year initiative will target more than 100,000 stakeholders and consist of three components: a social media campaign under the name Speaking Truth on Poverty (S.T.O.P.), a classroom-based Model UN mini-simulation on the Eradication of Extreme Poverty, and a platform for participants to cast their virtual votes on resolutions that could end poverty (think the MyWorld2030 platform from a few years ago). The project will attract students and teachers from both the United States and abroad who may, or may not, know about the benefits of Model UN as an experiential learning classroom resource. The project will seek to leverage the vast reach and resources of the Global Education Coalition.

Looking forward to seeing you at the next meeting in March.
